The five daily prayers
The five daily prayers are the second pillar of Islam and the first thing a person will be asked about on the Day of Judgment. Each has its own window of time across the day, so that the remembrance of Allah is woven through every part of a Muslim's waking life.
Fajr is prayed before dawn, Dhuhr after midday, Asr in the late afternoon, Maghrib just after sunset, and Isha at night. Sunrise is listed as well, not a prayer, but the end of the Fajr window.
The two Asr options above reflect a difference in calculation between the schools of Islamic jurisprudence: the Hanafi method places Asr slightly later than the standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali) method. Choose whichever your community follows.
